Mastodon have a new album out on 6/24. We have a sneak peek for you with the High Road CD single, also featuring the track Chimes at Midnight. Buy this CD for $2 now and bring it back in on June 24th and get $2 off the CD or LP! Awesome. New Arrivals for June 10th .................................................. Jack White - Lazaretto (Third Man) Jack White's new album is most notable for the Ultra LP version, which boasts: 2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels, 1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM and one plays at 45 RPM, making it a "3-speed" record; Side A plays from the inside to the outside of the disc; Dual-groove technology (the record plays an electric or acoustic intro for "Just One Drink" depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song); Matte finish on Side B, gives the appearance of an unplayed 78 RPM record; Both sides end with locked grooves; Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format; Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record; Absolutely zero compression used during recording, mixing & mastering; Features a different running order from the CD/digital version. Memory Map - The Sky As Well As Space (Joyful Noise) Bloomington's Memory Map (Mike Bridavsky, Mike Dixon, Matt Tobey, and Josh Morrow) continue to flesh out their uniquely guitar-driven blend of indie pop. Few bands straddle song-craft and technical prowess as effortlessly as they do. Using three guitars (one which cheats its way into acting as a bass), a three-piece drum kit, and vocals from all four members, Memory Map organically fuse cascading guitar lines, complex rhythms, and layered vocal harmonies into shamelessly accessible guitar pop. Craft Spells - Nausea (Captured Tracks) After a dormant period following the release of the Gallery EP in 2012, Craft Spells' Justin Vallesteros is back with the gorgeously ambitious Nausea. It's Craft Spells' second proper full length LP, and first since 2010's critically acclaimed Idle Labor. Nausea could easily have been a record rife with indecision and anxiety. But like the song for which the album is named, Craft Spells was able to turn the chaos and disillusionment into a work that provides ammo against that very thing, with beauty, vision and melody. Stagnant Pools - Geist (Polyvinyl) Stagnant Pools are Bryan and Douglass Enas, two brothers from Indiana, who, with just one guitar and a drum kit, make music that the Chicago Reader describes as "drone-heavy, slate-gray art-rock that should appeal to fans of Disappears, Joy Division, and Sonic Youth records from back when they were still actually scary." Definitely in line with My Bloody Valentine and Flying Saucer Attack. Umphreys McGee - Similar Skin (Nothing Too Fancy) As one of the most progressive and forwarding thinking DIY bands around, Umphrey's McGee continues to set new industry standards where music and the fan experience intersect. Similar Skin features 11 new songs; some part of their vast live repertoire that have been recorded here for the first time. While Umphrey's calling card for years has been their grand live events, the band's focus in the studio has continued to evolve and break new ground with each album. Comes with a free bonus CD, too! First Aid Kit - Stay Gold (Columbia) The Swedish duo sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg have honed their lush arrangements and blossomed as vivid storytellers in creating this ambitious 10-song collection of originals. Recorded at ARC studios in Omaha and produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk), the duo also enlisted The Omaha Symphony Orchestra to play on the record, with arrangements by Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, Broken Bells, Rilo Kiley). They say of the recording process, "We took new directions and turns with the arrangements, building them up and creating more dynamics, yet always following where the songs wanted to go." Chrissie Hynde - Stockholm (Caroline) Stockholm is a suitably impressive addition to a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer's staggering legacy, a fresh debut. "It's the first album with my name on it," Chrissie says. "But it's not a solo album. In fact, making this album was more of a collaboration than any Pretenders album ever was." Clipping - CLPPNG (Sub Pop) CLPPNG is the debut album from LA based rap trio, Clipping for Sub Pop. Blending precise, quick fire vocals with caustic burst of noise, they're classic west coast rap music from the tradition where sounding different wasn't cause for fear. They imagine their work as simply one method among many- no more or less avant-garde than the stark, unrelenting soundscapes coming out of Chicago, the psychedelic blur of contemporary Atlanta rap, the ultra-minimal party clap currently dominating the West Coast, or the off-kilter post-backpack sound of their label mates Shabazz Palaces. Rap music is getting weird again, and Clipping are proud to be around to witness and participate. Dub Club vs The Lions - This Generation Dub (Stones Throw) Raised on classic reggae and soul, The Lions have carved out a distinct style that has earned them praise from reggae enthusiasts around the world. The 12-man ensemble, fronted by the sweet falsetto of Malik Moore, Hepcat's Alex Desert and DJ stylings of Black Shakespeare, the charismatic cousin of Robbie Shakespeare (of Sly & Robbie fame), released their album This Generation last year on Stones Throw. Enter Tom Chasteen, the main man behind LA's legendary Dub Club. Chasteen who worked his dubbed out magic into 8 tracks from This Generation, to create This Generation in Dub. Jose James - While You Were Sleeping (Blue Note) While You Were Sleeping signals a new creative direction for the versatile singer. The album was recorded in Brooklyn by Jose and former Bloomington native Brian Bender. "This album is a synthesis of everything I love about music," says Jose, "from contemporary artists like Frank Ocean, James Blake, and Junip to groundbreaking artists I grew up with like Nirvana, Radiohead, and Madlib. It's also a love letter to many late nights spent in East London clubs watching new movements unfold in electronic music. I want people to feel the joy of discovery that I experience night after night onstage, reaching for something new." Say Anything - Hebrews (Equal Vision) Hebrews was recorded with no guitars and extensive orchestrations, as well as an all-star "cast" of guest vocalists that includes blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves' Tom DeLonge, Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra, meWithoutYou's Aaron Weiss, Every Time I Die's Keith Buckley, the Get Up Kids' Matt Pryor, Chris Conley of Saves the Day, Bemis' wife Sherri DuPree and sister-in-law Chauntelle DuPree-D'Agostino, both from Eisley.
