We are wildly excited to announce THE CLEAN will be performing at the Bishop on Sunday August 17th. Yes, you read that right. The Clean, from New Zealand. Are you as surprised as we are that this is ACTUALLY HAPPENING? We can barely believe it either and we set it up! Tickets are on sale NOW. Certainly one of the most influential bands of the past few decades, the Clean continue to put out great music to this day and their rep just keeps growing as time goes on. Think about it, are there any modern indie rock bands at all that don't wish they were the Clean? Well, the REAL DEAL, OG NZ mofos will be playing right here in Bloomington in just a few short weeks. Seriously, this band is up there with VU and CCR in terms of shear unassailable greatness. If you are not at this show it means that you have given up on rock and roll (and probably life as well) and you should just do everyone a favor and call it quits. Really, why don't you do yourself in? Or, better yet, buy your ticket! On sale NOW at Landlocked Music or online here. New Arrivals for July 22nd .................................................. White Fence - For The Recently Found Innocent (Drag City) With high-collared coat turned up against the cruel wind, White Fence emerge from their high aerie to display a shining array of royal jewels each time they unveil a new pop album to the world. Inevitably, the collision at the intersection of all these winding roads is a beautiful pileup of deep impacts, graceful lines and open space embodied in sound, White on White, compacted for your eyes and ears to believe. White Fence's previous release, Cyclops Reap demonstrated a process being executed at the top of its game. For the Recently Found Innocent surges forth with fresh set of elaborately crafted songs, harmony vocalizations and trippin guitar tones that strike the face and viscera with an equal (easy) blow. Black Angels - Clear Lake Forest (Blue Horizon) After roaming through the 'Indigo Meadow,' the time has come to journey to the 'Clear Lake Forest,' where seven tales of diamonds, executioners, and other strange occurrences await underneath the crystal waves lapping in the lake. Equal parts visceral and sweeping, it's perfect for shindigs in the desert or as the soundtrack to your mescaline-fueled escape from heartache. - Consequence of Sound The Raveonettes - Pe'ahi (Orchard) Danish duo return to form with their 8th full-length album. Entitled Pe'ahi, the album draws its title from a popular surfing spot near Maui. Serving as the follow-up to 2012's Observator, it spans 10 tracks and was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen. Sune Rose Wagner said "Endless Sleeper" is rather indicative of the entire sound and aesthetic of Pe'ahi. "It's about a horrific near-drowning experience I had in Hawaii some years ago. It's about taking risks in order to exist. The song features a lot of recurring musical ideas of Pe'ahi such as Old Skool breakbeats, exaggerated dynamics, unconventional song structures, staccato guitar picking, intense layered vocals, etc." Freeman - s/t (Partisan) Aaron Freeman's first album of original material since disbanding Ween and getting sober, but it's not a record mired in its maker's private struggles. It's a collection of gorgeous, subtly offbeat songs. The lush psych pop of "...Stallion"; the melancholy plea of "More Than the World"; the unflappable, Plastic Ono Band esque blues-rock of "Gimmie One More." Freeman distills an aesthetic equal parts wonder & malaise, frankness & mysticism, defiance & vulnerability to its headiest essence, proving that this man, known for so long by another name, is finally free. Got A Girl - I Love You But I Must Drive Off This Cliff Now (Bulk) In the grand tradition of great pop duos like Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin, Captain & Tenille, Simon & Garfunkel, Hall & Oates, and Shields & Yarnell; Got a Girl is the blossoming collaboration between Mary Elizabeth Winstead and superproducer Dan 'The Automator' Nakamura (Gorillaz; Deltron 3030). Distilling and decanting the spirits of John Keats and Charlotte Corday, Chopin and nouvelle chanson, Got a Girl serves up a sweet and sharply carbonated cocktail of the epic, the baroque, the absurd by turns sentimental and postmodern, and in total, utterly irresistible. Joyce Manor - Never Hungover Again (Epitaph) Their first self-titled album in 2011 exploded out of nowhere; across two albums, they discovered what Joyce Manor really sounded like the speed and sense of melody of fellow South Bay band the Descendents, the artfully bittersweet lyricism of Jawbreaker and the undeniable heart-on-sleeve honesty of the first two Weezer albums. By the close of 2013, they had signed with Epitaph, and now had the experience, the discipline and the inspiration to make one of those rare albums that redefines a young band Never Hungover Again. Friend and Philly producer Joe Reinhardt took the controls in Hollywood's analog dreamland the Lair, and they assigned the final mix to Tony Hoffer the guy who found the definitive sound for Supergrass, Belle and Sebastian, M83 and Phoenix. Real Friends - Maybe This Place Is The Same And We're Just Changing (Fearless) Fronted by charismatic vocalist Dan Lambton and pushed lyrically by bassist Kyle Fasel, Real Friends have become loved for their heart-on-sleeve and hook-in-mouth pop-punk as timeless and as passionate as their influences. The band released a successful string of EPs, taking their time to grow a core following as a much-sought after unsigned band. Now as one of Alternative Press' Most Anticipated Bands Of 2014 and cover of the 100 bands you need to know issue, Real Friends are set to expose their sound to a whole new audience clamoring to be a part of the band's inspiring story. Royal Trux - Hero Zero 7" (Drag City) Pavement - Demolition Plot J-7 7"(Drag City) VA - I Hear the Devil Calling Me 7"(Drag City) A big surprise from Drag City Records! Reissues of the label's first two 7"s (Royal Trux and Pavement, respectively) and the Xpressway New Zealand Sampler 'I Hear the Devil Calling Me' 7" from 1991, featuring twelve 1 minute (or less) tracks from 12 different acts. Including Alastair Galbraith, Peter Jeffries, Renderers, Dead C, Dadamah, Gate and more. All three on gold wax! Its like Christmas (or RSD) in July! Alvvays - s/t (Polyvinyl) Alvvays are 2 women, 3 men, a crate of C-86 tapes and a love of jingle-jangle. Convening in Toronto, the group have been making music since since dusk or maybe dawn. As a result, their debut self-titled album is both sun-splashed and twilit. Recorded at Chad Van Gaalen's Yoko Eno studio and mixed by Graham Walsh and John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Kurt Vile). The resultant album is loud and clear and sure. Flood your ears. Colony House - When I Was Younger (Descendant) "Colony House is sometimes described as 'The Killers meet Phoenix,' but the Nashville band might be a little more like Kings Of Leon... Colony House makes polarizing rock that aims to explore both the dark and light sides of society." - A.V. Club Warren Cuccurullo & Ustad Sultan Khan - The Master (Six Degrees) Lost tapes always raise an eyebrow. When dealing with India's greatest sarangi player of modern times, Ustad Sultan Khan, an entire planet of classical Indian music fans are certain to turn up the volume. Khan's collaboration with former Duran Duran and Frank Zappa guitarist Warren Cuccurullo weren't exactly lost, just put on hold since the 1998 recording session in London. Recorded during a predominantly spontaneous weekend, The Master features Khan's inimitable sarangi playing and singing with a lushly textured ambient guitar soundtrack provided by Cuccurullo. Mike Doughty - Live At Ken's House (Snack Bar) In the fall of 2013, after famously eschewing his former band's repertoire for most of his career, Doughty released an album of re-imagined Soul Coughing songs titled Circles Super Bon Bon and toured the US in support of it with Catherine Popper on upright bass, Pete Willhoit on drums, and Doughty himself on guitar, turntables and sampler. Now, Doughty returns with a recording of the live show, featuring many Soul Coughing songs that were arranged for the tour, but weren't on the album. Field Mouse - Hold Still Life (Topshelf) A mix of dreamy reverb-tinged guitars and synthesizers, Field Mouse blends the hard edges of indie rock with the warmer stylings of dream pop and shoegaze. Their songs lure you in with saccharine melodies and soothing vocals, and turn on you without warning with biting lyrics and a thick layered wall of fuzz guitar. It's a blend Browne and Futral have spent years working to perfect. Tape & Vinyl & Print Zone ..................................................
