Do you like Wilco and/or beer? Get a sneak listen to the new album from Tweedy on Wednesday, September 17th starting at 7pm at the Upland Brew Pub on 11th Street! We are also hosting a Tweedy inspired graffiti contest - design your own Tweedy logo on paper with markers we have at the event and the entrants get prizes. Landlocked will also be taking pre-orders for the CD and LP, out on 9/23 on Anti Records, as well as selling Wilco merchandise. New Arrivals for September 16th .................................................. Shellac - Dude Incredible (Touch & Go) This is Shellac's fifth LP. Recording took place sporadically over the past few years at Steve's Electrical Audio studios in Chicago. The record was mastered by Steve Rooke at Abbey Road. There is no comma in Dude Incredible; like Sir Duke or King Friday, for example. Audio quality is paramount. The LP was mastered entirely in the analog domain, using the Direct Metal Mastering process. The LPs are manufactured at RTI using their HQ-180 system. My Brightest Diamond - This is My Hand (Asthmatic Kitty) This Is My Hand is a journey beyond the composition of music. "I had this 'back-to-basics' moment of reading how humans were making sounds before we were using words," says Shara. Produced by Shara herself and keyboardist Zac Rae, it is a bold chapter in the unfurling MBD story. Its exploration of music and its rhythmic urgency escort Shara's chamber-music aesthetic out of the chamber and back into the dance hall and rock bar. Caroline Peyton - Homeseeker's Paradise (self) Caroline recorded 2 LPs in Bloomington in the 70s for the label she started with Mark Bingham. On both LPs, she interpreted Bingham's post-Joni Mitchell, post-Arthur Lee songs in virtuosic fashion. Chicago label Numero Group reissued both on CD. The musicianship on this new album reflects the high-caliber talent Peyton handpicked to join her in the studio. Musician and producer Mark Nevers (Lambchop) tracked the songs. Guitarists Chris Scruggs (BR549, Michael Nesmith) and noted solo performer William Tyler (Lambchop, Silver Jews), keyboardist Tony Crow (Lambchop) and bassist Jordan Caress (Ponychase) each play on the record, as does renowned harmonica virtuoso Pat Bergeson. Allah-Las - Worship the Sun (Innovative Leisure) Allah-Las' second album, Worship The Sun, expands on the sound established by their maiden effort, honing their fusion of West Coast garage rock and roll, Latin percussion and electric folk. As richly textured and timeless as a Southern California beach break, the songs are evocative of Los Angeles storied past. Beatniks, artists, surfers, nomads. Remnants of a bygone Sunset Strip. Golden tans and cosmic sunsets. One can feel the warmth of the sun, but the band deftly avoids the kitsch so often indulged by lovers of these things. Shintaro Sakamoto - Let's Dance Raw (Other) Shintaro hinted at the new sound throughout his solo debut, and here the music is blown wide open, with the steel guitar as the unifying force throughout. Sakamoto purchased and learned how to play the instrument just prior to writing and recording, and it enriches the post-apocalyptic exotica, fusing together the bright and breezy shimmer of Hawaiian slack-key hula melodies, the dusty shuffle of southwestern desert blues, and the space-age bachelor-pad music of postwar suburban dreamers. Generationals - Alix (Polyvinyl) Built up with layer upon layer of rhythmic lines, computer noises, RZA beats, and poppy vocals that sometimes sound like a Janet Jackson/Prince face-off, Alix is gathered up and arranged with great care into a good-smelling, subtly sexy, catchy-or-die mish-mosh of sensibilities and time-warp senselessness, lightly peppered with that signature Swiftian element, but undeniably Generationals in taste. Playing at the Bishop on 10/29! This Will Destroy You - Another Language (Suicide Squeeze) This Will Destroy You has been forging some of the world's most brutal, dynamic, and precariously visceral instrumental rock. In addition to a vigorous tour schedule, their celebrated discography and critically renowned soundtrack work for feature films and documentaries have earned them a sizable and fervent international following. Another Language marks their euphonious return from a prolonged vacuous dark period that threatened to break both the band and the members themselves. Moon Hooch - Cave Music (MRI) Moon Hooch captured the imaginations of thousands with its infamous stints busking on subway platforms and elsewhere in NYC; two sax players and a drummer whipping up furious, impromptu raves. Wherever Moon Hooch players, a dance party soon follows. This Is Cave Music, refers to the term the band coined to describe their unique sound: it's like house music, but more primitive and jagged and raw. Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood - Juice (Indirecto) Since first convening almost 17 years ago, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood's kinship both onstage and off has fostered an escalating degree of musical interplay. Juice combines the group's signature grooves with a newfound lyrical melodicism over a program of original compositions and 4 covers including a powerful hymn-like version of Dylan's The Times They Are A-Changin' and a dizzying dub deconstruction of Cream's Sunshine of Your Love. Blake Mills - Heigh Ho (Verve) Blake Mills is producing the highly anticipated sophomore album for Alabama Shakes, and has worked as a producer with a wide variety of artists, including ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Sara Watkins, Conor Oberst, Sky Ferreira, and Fiona Apple, with whom he toured extensively. As a session player and sideman he has worked with Beck, Cass McCombs, Jackson Browne, Lucinda Williams, and Neil Diamond, among others. Rick Rubin and T Bone Burnett frequently call upon his services as a guitarist, and equally enamored is Eric Clapton who recently told Rolling Stone magazine "Blake Mills is the last guitarist I heard that I thought was phenomenal." James - La Petite Mort (BMG) Manchester's finest make a welcome return with "La Petite Mort", the first new full length james album in six years. Produced by Max Dingel (Killers, Muse, White Lies) and written as ever, by the band, with Tim Booth lyrics, this new disc ranks among their finest in their 30 year career. Mike Doughty - Stellar Motel (Snack Bar) Stellar Motel is Mike's first album of all-original tunes since 2011's "Yes and Also Yes." Produced by DJ Good Goose, the album features a menagerie of guests from the rappers Jay Boogs, JHA, Miss Eaves, and MC Frontalot, to drums and sax trio Moon Hooch, to long-time sideman Andrew "Scrap" Livingston, to Japanese rap star Kim Uhnellys. Mike Farris - Shine for All the People (Compass) Mike's unique blend of rock, blues & gospel has earned him praise from all corners of the music world including the "Best New & Emerging Artist" award from the Americana Music Association in 2008. On his new album, his musical vision has coalesced into a sound that harkens back to early Stax Records yet emerges completely fresh and all his own. Saturated with horns, B3, and Southern gospel backing vocals. His voice evokes the soulful sweetness of Al Green in one moment and the razor sharp blast of Bon Scott the next. Lia Ices - Ices (Jagjaguwar) "Ices is a celebration of flight, levity, and the conviction that you can leave earth. Flight became a metaphor for the ignition of the imagination. The process created a lightness in me, a freedom and positive energy that I'd never before felt or explored." Lowell - We Loved Her Dearly (Arts & Crafts) With her solo debut on Arts & Crafts, the self-styled singer, songwriter, producer and video artist takes a bold leap forward with celebratory pop songs buoyed by contagious melody and Lowell's sensual, provocative, artful and invulnerable one-up on artists like Lyyke Li and Santigold, as heard on lead tracks "The Bells" and "I Love you Money." Scruffy The Cat - Good Goodbye: Unreleased Recordings (Omnivore) Featuring a whopping 23 tracks - one originally only issued as a rare, 1989 split single with Young Fresh Fellows, and the others previously unheard until now! From demos to live performances to studio tracks, The Good Goodbye: Unreleased Recordings 1984-1990 traces Scruffy The Cat's musical journey in a way it's never been presented before. VA - Dead Man's Town: Born in the USA tribute (Lightning Rod) Although it would become his largest selling album, Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars says "any of Born in the USA could be played with acoustic guitar alone and still be great." Taking this ideas as its premise, this tribute strips the originals to the core, with contributions from Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires, Low, Nicole Atkins, Justin Townes Earle, Blitzen Trapper, Joe Pug, Trampled By Turtles and more.
