Thanks again to Lily & Madeleine (and Shannon Hayden!) and all the fans who came out on Sunday for another great instore performance with the Indianapolis sisters. We still have fabulous screen-printed posters from Goodnight Sweet Prints available, as well as copies of Shannon's CD, and of course the full catalog from Lily and Madeleine, including their new CD/LP, Fumes. Our next event is Friday, November 28th - Black Friday! Our friends at Record Store Day (http://www.recordstoreday.com/) have helped build a cool little day, a baby RSD, with all kinds of cool new releases made especially for the day. Check out the list here (http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases) , and start your holiday shopping with something for yourself or someone special. As usual, we recommend showing up early if there is something you -really- want! Have you been following the Blue Note Records 75th Birthday campaign? Blue Note are reissuing 100 titles from their legendary catalog over the course of the year, and Blue Note Authorized Dealers (like Landlocked!) will be the place to find those reissues, as well as a monthly EXCLUSIVE reissue, which you can find first, and for a limited time, ONLY at Blue Note Authorized Dealers. We also have Blue Note slipmats for people who buy titles from the reissue campaign! More Info here! (http://www.recordstoreday.com/BNAD) ** New Arrivals for October 28th ------------------------------------------------------------ ** Lily & Madeleine - Fumes (Asthmatic Kitty) ------------------------------------------------------------ L&M's calling card is the breathtaking and intuitive union of their voices. When the two come together in ecstatic and seamless blood harmony, it's a sound that continues to haunt long after the songs are sung, leaving an electrical charge behind like a sparkling tracer in the air. Their new record finds the Indianapolis sisters once again teaming with local producer Paul Mahern and songwriter Kenny Childers. The album is expansive, the instrumentation multi-layered, an entrancing production that allows both singers to stretch out in new directions. Like the sun slanting through a window in a Vermeer painting, it's an experience that captures the subtleties of both shadow and light. ** Run the Jewels - RTJ2 (Mass Appeal) ------------------------------------------------------------ The super dynamic duo of EL-P and Killer Mike, two of the most distinctive and celebrated names in rap, are set to release their sophomore album, Run The Jewels 2. The immensely anticipated album includes guests ranging from Zack De La Rocha to Travis Barker amongst others, but the duo maintains that the album is first and foremost about the creative partnership between the MCs themselves. CD now, LP in a few weeks. ** Flaming Lips - With a Little Help From My Fwends (WB) ------------------------------------------------------------ The band has recorded their own versions of each track on The Beatles' 1967 classic in their own inimitable style, with help from special friends Miley Cyrus, Moby, My Morning Jacket, J. Mascis, Dr. Dog, Phantogram, Tegan and Sara, Grace Potter and many others. All proceeds from sales of will be donated to The Bella Foundation, a non-profit organization based in the band's hometown of Oklahoma City that assists low-income, elderly, or terminally ill pet owners with the cost of veterinary care. ** Daniel Lanois - Flesh and Machine (Anti) ------------------------------------------------------------ A wildly ambitious, diverse exploration of modern sonics, Flesh and Machine careens from huge guitar skronk to haunted landscapes. But perhaps for the first time, Lanois' new album highlights the strange parallel evolution that has taken place in his music; alongside the developments in IDM that launched from the same 70s avante-intrumental roots as Eno and company, Lanois' music has developed a rhythmic complexity heard in the most adventurous music by Autechre or Matmos. Only for Lanois, nothing is digital. Dense, visceral music that combines the primitive stomach-pounding volume of rock with the heartbreaking found sonics of early electronic music. ** Led Zeppelin - IV / Houses of the Holy [reissues] (Atlantic) ------------------------------------------------------------ Like the previous deluxe reissues in the series, each album will include the original LP, newly remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page, alongside a second disc of previously unreleased audio culled from the band members' vaults. Additionally, each release will also be available as a single album, a single vinyl LP, a deluxe 2-LP, and a super deluxe box set (arriving soon!), the latter of which features the CDs, LPs, a download card, an 80-page hardbound book with previously unseen photos and memorabilia and a high-quality print of the album cover. Plenty of free schwag with purchase! ** Mono - Last Dawn / Rays of Darkness (Temporary Residence) ------------------------------------------------------------ The Last Dawn and Rays of Darkness are a pair of new albums by MONO. Recorded simultaneously yet conceptually and creatively disparate, the two act as both opposing and complementary sides to a story. It is Mono's blackest album ever, a collection of scorched riffs, doom rhythms, and an unexpected contribution from post-hardcore pioneer Tetsu Fukagawa of Envy. The album ends with the smoldering wreckage of distorted guitars and ominous drones playing out a eulogy to the days when Mono shot blinding rays of light through seemingly endless darkness. ** Rancid - Honor Is All We Know (Epitaph) ------------------------------------------------------------ Rancid's new LP is much like their other records in the sense that it is filled with the stories and characters that populate the band's lives, and reflects the cultural and political climate in which it was written and recorded. It has classic Rancid songcraft: two minute songs packed with melody, personally empathetic and politically denunciatory. It is also unique in that it is filled with the growing insight of a band who has been doing this for a while now: it feels natural and organic, written without an agenda or a bone to pick, rather the culmination of lives lived largely with a keen interest in the world and a sense of brotherhood. ** Cat Stevens / Yusuf - Tell Em I'm Gone (Legacy) ------------------------------------------------------------ On this album, Yusuf returns to the roots of his teenage musical inspiration: American blues and R&B, using these genres to explore humanity's climb to freedom with songs that recall the spirit of his earliest days as a nascent singer-songwriter in London. Stunning originals plus covers of American standards ("Big Boss Man," "You Are My Sunshine") and a moving version of Edgar Winter's "Dying To Live" find Yusuf as strong of voice and as engaging a performer as ever before. Features musical contributions from Richard Thompson, blues harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Tuareg group Tinariwen, and guitarist Matt Sweeney. The album was produced by Yusuf, with Rick Rubin. ** Twilight Sad - No One Wants To Be Here (Fat Cat) ------------------------------------------------------------ Following their stark nod to the heroes of an industrial past, No One Can Ever Know, The Twilight Sad has dug into their own past to form an album that's bracing, biting and as widescreen as anything in their canon. The band, ever ambassadors of Scottish gloom, have harnessed their dark muse once again and drawn on their prowess in the live arena to track a record that proves they can translate the power of their stage show to tape. ** Pegi Young & the Survivors - Lonely in a Crowded Room (New West) ------------------------------------------------------------ Lonely In A Crowded Room finds Pegi again showcasing her singing and songwriting talents on a rich and well thought out album. Her 4th offering builds on the acclaim and success of the previous three, the first being released in 2007. Mixed in with her original compositions are three well-selected covers - the Allen Toussaint penned / Irma Thomas classic "Ruler Of My Heart"; Spooner Oldham's "Lonely Women Make Good Lovers"; and "Don't Let Me Be Lonely" by Jerry Ragovoy. ** Dave Davies - Rippin Up Time (Red River) ------------------------------------------------------------ As lead guitarist and founder of The Kinks, Dave Davies is one of the most original forces in rock, without whom guitar-rock styles including heavy metal and punk would have been inconceivable. Dave's massive guitar sounds have inspired bands from Van Halen to Green Day. In addition to his dozens of albums with The Kinks, Dave has released several solo albums, while continuously touring to rave reviews. His new album features 10 original songs written in classic Kinks style that fans of all ages will want to hear. ** Flight Facilities - Down to Earth (Glassnote) ------------------------------------------------------------ Four years after they won hearts with their track Crave You, Sydney's iconic pilots of house music are ready to take off with their debut album Down To Earth. The duo are scaling new heights on this record, and as expected they've enlisted a star studded troupe of special guest vocalists including Owl Eyes, Reggie Watts, and Bishop Nehru. Taking inspiration from some of their favourite albums by groups like Cut Copy and Metronomy, Flight Facilities have built on their sound of upbeat dance floor fillers meshed with down tempo ear worms to deliver an incredibly accomplished LP. ** Francisco the Man - Loose Ends (Fat Possum) ------------------------------------------------------------ The band's first LP is a memorable mash-up of gliding dream-pop, mesmerizing odysseys and snowballing guitars. For a first full album, it's an uncharacteristically strong effort. The band is as likely to hammer out power pop, a la Teenage Fanclub, as unspool into velvet-smooth krautrock epics that Bradford Cox would luxuriate over. ** Pianos Become the Teeth - Keep You (Epitaph) ------------------------------------------------------------ Their third album sees the band taking a brave step forward to craft a musical statement that truly transcends genres. The immediately noticeable difference is Durfey's vocal approach that sees him traded the throat-gutting screams of the band's early releases with cleaner, more intelligible vocals. However anyone who has followed the band's trajectory-specifically the song "Hiding" from their 2013 split with Touche Amore-can trace the way the band's sound has evolved from a melodic screamo act to a group that create heaviness and weight via raw emotion instead of distortion and dissonance. ** Tape & Vinyl & Print Zone ------------------------------------------------------------ Ryan Adams - Vampires 7" (Pax-Am) Bulbous Creation - You Won't Remember Dying LP (Numero Group) Cherry Glazer - Had 10 Dollaz 7" (Suicide Squeeze) Cult of Riggonia - Nematode Rodriguez / Harry Chanchfield Presents LP (Cloud) Miles Davis - Young Man With A Horn 10" (Blue Note) Destruction Unit - Eclipse LP (FDH) Iron Maiden - LP / 7" reissues (Sanctuary) Kele - Trick LP (Kobalt) The Klitz - Sound Of Memphis 78 7" (Spacecase) Meatbodies - s/t LP (In the Red) Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood - Juice LP (Indirecto) Minus The Bear - Planet of Ice [LP reissue] (Suicide Squeeze) Modest Mouse - This Is A Long Drive [LP reissue] (Glacial Pace) Modest Mouse - White Lies, Yellow Teeth 7" (Glacial Pace) Ought - Once More With Feeling 10" (Constellation) Ovens - 8 Song 7" (Catholic Guilt) Quintron - Spellcaster II LP (Pizza Burglar) Spray Paint - Clean Blood, Regular Acid LP (Monofonus) Joe Jack Talcum - Home Recordings 1993-1999 Vol. 2 LP (Happy Birthday To Me) ** Also Released This Week ------------------------------------------------------------ Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen 2CD [21st Annv Edition] (Rhino) Bing & Ruth - Tomorrow Was The Golden Age (RVNG) Dan Bodan - Soft (DFA) Vashti Bunyun - Heartleap (DiChristina) Crobot - Something Supernatural (Wind Up) Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band - Intensity Ghost (No Quarter) Jerry Garcia Band - December 31st 1975 Keystone Berkeley () I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness - Dust (Secretly Canadian) Jawbreaker - 24 Hour Revenge Therapy [reissue] (Blackball) Obituary - Inked in Blood (Relapse) The Shivas - You Know What to Do (K) Slim Twig - A Hound at the Hem (DFA) Taylor Swift - 1989 (Big Machine) Roger Taylor [Queen] - Best (Omnivore) VA - Local Customs: Cavern Sound (Numero Group) ** Upcoming Concerts ------------------------------------------------------------ Hey out-of-towners and home-bodies!
